We are building novel technologies to revolutionise vaccine design and build mutation-proof vaccines. Disrupting the status quo in vaccine development and mediating meaningful impact on the health of people worldwide.

We strongly believe in building a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment where ideas can flow. We are assembling an exceptional and diverse team of biologists, computer engineers, bioinformaticians, immunologists, and visionaries to push the boundaries.

What brings us together as a team are our core values: commitment to each other, enthusiasm for learning and growing together, and a desire to use innovation as a way to improve the world.

Who are we

Baseimmune is a biotechnology start-up working on data-driven methods for antigen design and vaccine development. Founded by a team from the Jenner Institute in Oxford that have previously developed over 15 vaccines, Baseimmune uses computational methods to design the next generation of future-proof vaccines. Our technology allows prediction of pathogen mutation before it happens. We are a London based start-up building a dynamic team to realise this vision.

Founded in 2019 by Joshua Blight, Ariane Gomes and Phillip Kemlo, we are backed by leading investors from Europe and US, such as Hoxton Ventures, Creator Fund, Maki VC, Rockmount Capital, Cherry VC, Beast Ventures, Tiny VC, Voyagers, The Francis Crick Institute and Angels.

Our pipeline includes vaccines targeting human and veterinary pathogens. In addition, we have a number of collaborations with world leading institutes such as Imperial College London.

You’ll be joining a rapidly expanding team located at the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College London but re-locating to a larger London-based laboratory in 2022. The position provides the opportunity to work with a fresh biotech lab at the start of its journey with the opportunity to have a real impact.

The Role

You’ll play a crucial role in directing and developing the bioinformatic pipeline that drives the discovery and development of novel antigens for our vaccines. Not only this, but you’ll then be using the platform to design the future-proof vaccine antigens for our pre-clinical team to test. As a result, you’ll be working with an inter-disciplinary team of computer engineers and wet lab scientists, but reporting directly at C-level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and advance existing bioinformatic algorithms
  • Develop new bioinformatic modules that further advance the Baseimmune platform
  • Work with computer engineers to integrate these pipelines and algorithms into the Baseimmune platform
  • Design novel antigens for Baseimmune’s vaccines

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational biology or relevant doctorate
  • Proficiency with bioinformatics tools and pipelines, particularly evolutionary modelling
  • Prior expertise in using pathogen genomic data preferred but not necessary
  • Be familiar with the quantitative methodology and computational aspects of bioinformatics
  • Proven programming skills, preferably Python
  • You have a strong interest in technology and you’re excited to learn new things
  • You’ll be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team

How you enjoy working

  • You’re a quick learner who enjoys discussing ideas and putting them into action
  • You’re an inclusive team player who enjoys collaborating with people from different backgrounds
  • You seek out constructive criticism and know you are not your work
  • You want work to be meaningful and to be part of a business dedicated to having a positive impact on humanity
  • You help your team seek out highly valuable work, prioritise it effectively, and you create clarity for those around you
