Who are we

Baseimmune is a discovery stage biotech start-up focused on developing cross-protective vaccines through computationally designed antigens. Founded by the team that pioneered computational approaches to design vaccines against infectious diseases at the Jenner Institute University of Oxford, with two multi-strain vaccines currently in clinical trials. Our mission is to revolutionise vaccines design by harnessing the power of computational biology, data analytics, and machine learning to generate longer lasting and mutation-proof vaccines.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Software Developer to join interdisciplinary team located at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre in King’s Cross, London. This is a full-time role with the opportunity for fully remote or hybrid working style.


As a Software Developer at Baseimmune, you will be working on a number of exciting engineering projects that support and enable a team of computational biologist creating novel computationally designed vaccines. You’ll be working directly with the CTO, contributing to the development of the core platform and supporting tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy new computational tools and processes to support various aspects of our biotech research and development projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define specifications, and translate scientific concepts into functional software solutions.
  • Optimise software performance and scalability to handle large-scale data analysis and processing tasks efficiently.
  • Improve and optimise existing tools.
  • Collect and maintain large datasets.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve our software development processes and tools.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's, Master's or demonstrable experience in one of the following areas Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in software development, preferably in the biotech or life sciences domain.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in scientific computing, especially Python
  • Familiarity with the Linux/Unix environment and the tools.
  • Experience in using SCM tools.
  • Implement best practices for software development, including version control, code review, testing, and documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Linux system administration and service setup.
  • Experience in developing software for scientific data visualization and analysis (e.g. HTML, Matplotlib, R)
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases commonly used in life sciences research.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related services.
